For those of you who are not familiar with it, this disease gets his name from Francois de la Peyronie, a brilliant doctor of his time, who served King Louis XIV of France as a surgeon. He described first this rare disease in men in 1743, when little was known about the penis health except its function and how to use it. The causes of this condition are still unclear, but there is some info on its evolution for us to make a simple description here.

The penis body, the Corpora Cavernosa is surrounded by a connective tissue named "Tunica Albuginea". Some kind of scar tissue begins to evolve for yet unknown reasons in the inside of Tunica Albuginea. This plague prevents the penis to expand normally during erections and, in later faze, forms a permanent bend in to one side of the penis.

Patients can notice some pain at first, but this eventually goes away on its own later. There is no need to take painkillers or any other pills. After the pain, the only effect of this illness is a crook, visibly during erection, and sometimes a shortening of the penis in the soft state. Men suffering from Peyronie's disease usually are able to have normal and painless sex with their partners. Unfortunately, as the penis becomes extremly curved, sexual intercourse will be obstructed.

This disease was described in males of all races and ages, but mostly are affected Caucasian men near 40 and up. It is not contagious at all and has nothing to do with cancer or other serious health conditions. There is no real treatment discovered yet, and some of the patients with amelioration even experienced relapses. The list of methods and sex pills developed to treat Peyronie's disease is quite large, but none of them was proven effective.

The most often recommended and used treatment is surgery. For a long time, surgery was the only way for treating Peyronie's disease without no other proven methods. With surgical intervention can be solved severe cases through the insertion of implants. Plastic cylinders, either inflatable or solid are inserted in the Corpora Cavernosa. Penile implants should work for straightening out the organ correcting the curvature. Depending on cases the surgeon can try different plastic surgery methods to increase the chance of a successful operation.

Another way to fight Peyronie's disease is the complete surgical replacement of the affected tissues, in order to bring back the penis to the original shape. This treatment is advised for patients with severely bent penises and large plagues.

Nowadays, the most commonly used procedure for correcting the penis curvature is the Nesbit Method. During this operation the penis is forced to an artificial erection injecting in it physiologic salt solution. The surgeon straightens the penis with a clamp, gathering the outer side of the bend.

Promising result was achieved by using Collagenase and Verapamil injections to break down the plaque and to prevent new plaque from forming. Vitamin E and Potassium aminobenzoate (Potaba) is also used to help the skin heal and reduce the plague.

In addition, one of the best ways of dealing with Peyronie's disease is to use penis enlargement methods, sex pills but even better traction devices to straighten the penis. Despite the controversy surrounding such novel approaches as traction devices, several clinical researches have been conducted to study the effectiveness of this technique.
