Designed to help cigarette smokers break their habit, Chantix, also known by the brand name of Champix, is now known to cause serious side effects.

In November 2007, the FDA revealed that the side effects of Chantix might even be deadly. While some side effects can be somewhat mild, the drug has been linked to approximately 55 suicides as well as emerging psychological problems in otherwise stable adults.

Every year, thousands of people try to quit smoking. Some do it cold turkey. Others try chewing nicotine gum or wearing a nicotine patch.

A fairly new alternative to these methods is a drug called Chantix (Varenicline Tartrate), a daily pill that that activates release of 35-60% of the dopamine that nicotine normally does. Brought to market on May 11, 2006 by the U.

After investigating probable Chantix danger, the Federal Food and Drug administration (FDA), issued a health advisory about Chantix, (known as Champix abroad), effectively alerting patients to the potential side effects of Chantix.

The drug Chantix is a prescription medicine that comes in the form of a pill. It is given to patients who are looking to quit smoking, thereby ending their nicotine habits for good.

The dangers of Chantix were recently revealed when the FDA released a heath advisory against the anti-smoking drug in November of 2007.

Chantix, which is used to help smokers quit cigarettes, has been linked to 55 suicides and may cause known psychological disturbances, like extremely aggressive or erratic behavior.

Some of the more troublesome, but non-lethal Chantix side effects are as follows:

1) Nausea
2) Dizziness
3) Headaches
4) Abnormal dreams
5) Cramps and gas
6) Vomiting

The FDA has been growing concerned by potentially life threatening Chantix side effects that include suicidal thoughts.
